Former President Joe Biden completed a course of radiation therapy to treat his prostate cancer on Monday.
Biden’s daughter, Ashley, shared a video of him ringing the bell at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia to celebrate the moment.
“Rung the bell! Thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at Penn Medicine. We are so grateful!”she wrote in an Instagram story.
Biden’s representatives said it’s unclear at this time if the former president will need another round of radiation therapy. He already underwent surgery to remove skin cancer lesions in September.
Biden, 82, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May after doctors found a nodule during a routine examination, his representatives said at the time. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men, behind only skin cancer.
However, Biden’s form of the cancer had already metastasized and spread to his bones. Prostate cancers are given a Gleason Score between 6 and 10, and Biden’s was graded as a 9, making it one of the more aggressive forms of the cancer.
Biden has already been taking hormones in pill form to fight the cancer as well. Surgery, radiation and hormone therapy are all common ways to treat prostate cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.
The former president has largely avoided the spotlight since he dropped out of the presidential race in July 2024.
