Man, 50, dies two weeks after he’s been at his Bronx home


A 50-year-old man has died nearly two weeks after another man delivered him a fatal beating at his Bronx home, police said Sunday.

Mark Gocul, 50, was punched several times in the face on Furman Ave. near E. 239th St. in Wakefield at about 7:30 a.m. June 23, cops said. He showed up at Montefiore Medical Center later in the day, at about 5 p.m., with a swollen, bruised face, cops said.

Barry's Restaurant, on East 235th street in the Bronx, and inside Barry's where Mark Gocol, aka Mr. Cool, would regularly DJ and play music. He played at this DJ booth as recently as a week ago, per one of the restaurant's patrons. Mr. Cool was a music staple and regular DJ in the Bronx for more than a decade, known for playing vintage Jamaican music. Friends near the bar were devastated to hear the news of his passing. Gocul succumbed to his injuries Saturday. The city medical examiner has ruled his death a homicide, cops said.

Police have made no arrests.
