OXFORD, Miss. – College Sports Communicators released their 2024 Academic All-District Baseball Team Tuesday and four Ole Miss Rebels were honored with the award. Will Furniss, Ethan Groff, Mason Nichols, and Jackson Ross were all named CSC Academic All-District honorees.
This is the second-consecutive season being recognized for their academic efforts for Groff and Nichols.
The 2024 Academic All‐District Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.
In order to qualify, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) while also participating in at least 90 percent of the team’s games. For pitchers, they must have at least 25 innings pitched. Qualifying student-athletes must also be at least a sophomore academically.
Furniss, a sophomore Finance major, played in 51 games for the Rebels this season, primarily as the designated hitter. He hit .276 in SEC play with an OPS of .853 which was third-best on the team.
Groff finished his third degree this spring, earning an Intercollegiate Athletics Administration Grad Certificate to go with his Master’s in Sport Analytics and Bachelor’s of Science in Management. He was one of two Rebels to appear in every game this season and led Ole Miss in stolen bases and doubles.
Nichols, a junior Biology major, was also named Ole Miss’ SEC Community Service Team representative earlier this season for all his work off the field. He made 17 appearances and six starts for the Rebels to the tune of a 4.15 ERA over 39 innings of work.
Ross also graduated this spring with an Intercollegiate Athletics Administration Grad Certificate to add to his Bachelor’s of Arts in Health Sciences. He was the other Rebel to appear in all 56 games this season and was the only one to start in all of them. He led the team in runs scored and walks, racking up the most walks in a season since 2019.
