A mother and two children in Brooklyn were killed following a chain-reaction collision on Saturday afternoon caused by a driver with a suspended license.

According to a preliminary investigation, at 1:04 p.m. on March 29, the driver of a silver Toyota Camry with TLC plates was headed westbound on Quentin Road when they attempted to turn right onto Ocean Parkway in Midwood.

As the Camry driver entered Ocean Parkway, law enforcement sources said, they were struck in the rear bumper by the driver of a blue Audi A3 sedan heading northbound on Ocean Parkway. The impact caused the Camry to be pushed aside while the Audi continued forward and struck the family, a mother and three children, in the crosswalk before overturning the vehicle.

The mother, aged 35, and two children, girls aged 6 and 8, died as a result of the collision. Another child, a 4-year-old boy, is in critical condition at Maimonides Medical Center. Their identities are being withheld at this time.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that the driver of the Audi, 32-year-old Miriam Uremie, was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. She was taken to NYU Langone Brooklyn in stable condition.

“This was a horrific tragedy caused by someone who shouldn’t have been on the road,” said Tisch. “A mother and two young children killed, another child fighting for his life, a family and a neighborhood devastated in an instant.”

The driver of the Camry, a 62-year-old man, was taken to Coney Island Hospital in stable condition.

Firefighters had to use the Hurst tool, known as the “jaws of life,” to cut several people out of the vehicle.

The other victims injured in this crash, a woman and three children in the Camry, are in stable condition at area hospitals.

A witness told amNewYork, “The car flipped several times, and people were under the car when Hazelal arrived. It is as if time stood still.”

“People are always speeding down here,” another witness to amNewYork. “Now look, it cost people their lives.”

Mayor Eric Adams expressed the city’s sympathy over the tragedy.

“This is extremely concerning and painful, not only to the City of New York in general but specifically to a very close-knit community,” said Mayor Adams. “A mother going for a simple stroll on a sunny day was struck and killed. As we pray for their families and this entire community, the city mourns this loss.”

The light sequence and the speed at which the vehicle was moving have yet to be determined, and police are looking to see if the Camry ran a red light as well as if the driver was intoxicated. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
