HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman was charged on Friday in connection to a fiery crash that left a man with serious injuries, according to a North Carolina State Highway Patrol news release.

Troopers charged Mary Vanhoy Barker, 52, of Thomasville, with unsafe movement and exceeding the posted speed.

Video on Business 85 showed an overturned tractor-trailer bursting with flames on the side of the road under a bridge and traffic being diverted.

Around 11:25 a.m. on Thursday, a tractor-trailer being driven by a 61-year-old High Point man and a Lexus being driven by Barker were going south on Interstate 85 Business/US 29/US 70 when the Lexus merged into the right travel lane and hit the tractor-trailer, troopers say.

The tractor-trailer traveled off the road, hit a bridge abutment for the Old Thomasville Road overpass, overturned and caught fire.

The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the Lexus was not hurt.

On Friday, NCDOT officials announced that the bridge re-opened early Friday afternoon after it was deemed structurally safe by inspectors from Raleigh.

No repairs are necessary for the bridge, and crews will come back at a later date to wash the soot from the fire off.
