Document and parcel shipping company DHL plans to lay off 120 workers at a facility in Raleigh and move that work to Concord, according to a filing with the N.C. Department of Commerce.
The layoffs will begin on Aug. 2.
The company said that it expects some employees may elect to transfer to Charlotte, but the majority will not. “All employees who are employed at the date of closure will be provided a severance benefit,” wrote Cynthia Frasier, senior director of employee relations, in a letter to the state.
None of the employees belong to a union.
Last year, DHL announced plans to expand in the Charlotte region and invest more than $40 million and create 80 jobs. DHL Supply Chain has signed on a 713,000-square-foot warehouse at the Innovation Logistics Center on Peeler Road in Salisbury.
“We are deeply committed to serving our customers, and that’s why we have decided to move our Raleigh facility to Concord, North Carolina,” said company spokeswoman Andrea Scarpulla. “In Concord, we will have a larger distribution center that will allow us to process more volume. This new building will better position us to support our strong customer base in North Carolina.”
The company has locations in the Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greensboro and Raleigh-Durham areas. It employs approximately 594,000 people in 220 countries and territories.
DHL is based in Bonn, Germany and reported revenue of 81.8 billion Euros in 2023. Its U.S. headquarters is in Plantation, Florida.
