Drive-thru focused Clutch Coffee opening second Greenville location

Clutch Coffee Bar is coming to East North Street June 15.

The coffee house is known for its quick-service drive-thru. It employs a similar customer-service model to Chick-fil-A, using runners to take orders at guests’ vehicles.

It is known for its caramel macchiatos, lattes and mochas, and fruit-infused energy drinks. The business launched its own brand of energy drinks earlier this year. Coffee is the main focus but the shop serves a wide array of beverages including juices, teas and smoothies, as well as pastries.

It was founded in 2018 in Mooresville, North Carolina. The new Greenville location will be the 11th of a planned 18 locations by the end of the year. The chain is also expanding in Charleston, Charlotte and Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The concept was first brought to the Upstate by way of Wade Hampton Boulevard in Taylors last year. For the past few weeks, it has used the Taylors location to train the staff for the new location.

Although still drive-thru-centric, the newest iteration for the Upstate will have a walk-up window and patio with tables. The East North location was formerly home to another coffee shop, Liquid Highway, which has since moved down the street.

“We’ve been making friends with our neighbors there in the plaza. (We’re) excited that there’s a Sprouts coming in there, just a lot of good things,” said owner Darren Spicer. “I think we’ll give Starbucks a little friendly competition.”

The grand opening will be held June 15 serving free small drinks all day, with giveaways and a live DJ.

It is located at 2407 E. North St., near the intersection with North Pleasantburg Drive.
