The South Carolina Virtual Charter School honored the students and educators who have exemplified excellence in academics and leadership during the 2023-2024 academic year at the school’s board retreat on April 22.
The distinguished educators honored as Teachers of the Year are Heather McCraw (Elementary School), Mindy Webb (Middle School) and Hayes Richter (High School). “These educators’ dedication, passion and commitment to education have had a significant impact upon our students and enriched the SCVCS experience for all,” said Deputy Head of School, Anita Latham.
Latham and the SCVCS leadership team recognized the exceptional Students of the Year, Karis Simmons (Elementary School), Jennifer Stapleton (Middle School) and Reagan Lee (High School). “Their outstanding academic achievements, leadership qualities and positive contributions to SCVCS and their communities make them exemplary role models for their peers.”
Numerous SCVCS students received awards for their academic prowess. Two students, Karis Simmons (ELA and Math) and Ava Rodgers (ELA) achieved perfect scores on the SC READY state assessment. Four eighth-grade students, Emily Clark, Elizabeth Enloe, Emma Pittman and Kennedy Stapleton, were named South Carolina Junior Scholars.
In addition to academic excellence, students received commendation for achievements in extracurricular activities. Bralynn English earned National Beta Club honors and Jack Stapleton was recognized for his acceptance to the Aim High Flight Academy. In career-based student organizations, Cristian Gause, Harvey Winslow and Aidan Winemiller earned Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) honors and Kayla Conklin earned Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) honors.
These achievements highlight the diverse talents and capabilities of SCVCS’ students and faculty. “We are immensely proud of our Teachers and Students of the Year, as well as all our award recipients, said Dr. Cherry Daniel, Head of School. “Their drive and commitment to success reflect the values of our school community and serve as an inspiration to others.”
