Will I – Mississippi (Original Stereo)
Quirky number from an Australian combo that had undergone quite a few personnel changes after ditching its original name, ‘Alison Gross’ for the more mainstream, ‘Mississippi’ in 1972.
While not as successful as the band’s ‘Kings of the World’ single (released some nineteen months beforehand), this track still peaked at a respectable #31 on a national top 40 chart published in the 1 June 1974 edition of the Go-Set pop newspaper.
Some years later, after analysing record retail sales in 1974, the ‘Kent Music Report’ confirmed the disc’s correct national position was #26.
This is the original stereo recording with the correct (5.10) running time. In 1974, the edited ‘short version’ also received pop radio airplay.
Australia release date: Early 1974.
Highest local chart position: #7 (Melbourne)
